OnGuard™ Radon Monitoring Faxback System
The Faxback system is an automated collection and reporting system for a unique, reusable radon testing device.
The Faxback server hosts a bank of 16 modems and the custom
application written to answer incoming calls. Communication with the
remote device prompts the collection of radon readings, which the
server stores in a database. Upon completion of the database
entries, the server creates a unique Microsoft Word document with
specific information required by various state agencies. At that
point the server calculates readings and creates a Microsoft Excel
spreadsheet which is inserted in the document, creating a chart of
readings. Finally, an automated fax of the complete document is sent
to the state agency.
This application also involved the development of a PDA and a laptop
application for use in the field by the radon tester. This user is able to
connect the laptop or PDA to the radon detection device via RS232.
The user may then
use the device to phone the faxback server. The server process is
started by the calling application.
The Faxback server project was written in Visual C++, Visual Basic,
and VBA for Office, utilizing Office Automation of Word, Access and
Excel.
